A street poet, Jane SpokenWord's work is rooted in the movement that brought the spontaneity of live music performances to the spoken word. Like those of the poets of Jazz, the Beats, The Last Poets, Gil Scott-Heron and others, she has authored two books of poetry Word Against the Machine and Tragically Hip with accompanying music and art by co-author Albey onBass Balgochian.
Her collaborations include The Maestro Cecil Taylor (All About Jazz Best of ‘16 for their performance at the Whitney Museum), Nuyorican Poet Miguel Algarin, and Beat Poet/activist John Sinclair. Her work has been published online and in several anthologies, including The National Beat Poetry Anthologies of 2019 & 2020. Whether it's through solos, duo's, trios, or bands, she brings her poetry to a diverse set of venues from museums and festivals, clubs and cafés, to busking street corners and living rooms everywhere.
